“Sexual addiction” also known as “sex addiction” is a psychological or emotional disorder. It’s the desire to perform sexual acts to achieve the “fix” that a substance addict gets from his or her preferred substance.

It’s believed that someone with sex addiction will search out multiple sex partners, though this in itself isn’t necessarily an indication of a disorder. It can also be like compulsive urge to masturbate, view pornography or be in sexually stimulating situations.
A person with sex addiction may significantly alter their life and activities so as to perform sexual acts multiple times a day. And are reportedly unable to regulate their behavior, despite severe negative consequences.

Following are the characteristics that indicate compulsive sexual behaviour:
- Frequent sexual activities become a prime focus. Thus neglecting health, personal care or other interests, activities and responsibilities
- Continuous repetitive sexual behavior despite adverse consequences or deriving little or no satisfaction from it
- Persistent behaviors that cause distress or impairment in personal, family, social, educational, and professional function.
- Repetitive compulsion towards sex followed by a feeling of guilt. And it repeats like a cycle.

It’s important to keep in mind that enjoying the sexual activity isn’t an indication of sex addiction. Sex may be a healthy human activity and enjoying is quite normal. Additionally, differences within the level of sexual interest between partners don’t mean that one partner has a sex addiction.
